King Charles Officially Strips Prince Andrew of HRH Style and Princely Dignity

In a definitive move, the reigning monarch has officially removed Andrew Mountbatten Windsor of his HRH style and his princely title.

These alterations were made official by issuing royal documents under the official state seal, which were recorded in the Gazette.

The official notice declared: “The king has been pleased by letters patent under the Great Seal dated 3 November 2025 to declare that the individual in question shall no longer be entitled to hold and enjoy the designation of ‘HRH’ and the honorific status of ‘Prince of the realm’.”

A separate record confirmed the stripping of the dukedom from the peerage list, with immediate effect.

It read: “His Majesty has been pleased by warrant under his royal sign manual dated 30 October 2025 to direct his government minister to cause the titleholder to be removed from the peerage roll.”

Background of the Royal Action

This move comes after mounting scrutiny over Andrew's links to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, including the release of Virginia Giuffre's memoir.

Giuffre claimed that she was assaulted by Andrew after being trafficked by Epstein, allegations that Andrew has consistently strenuously denied.

Mechanism of Removing Titles

Charles utilized his monarchical powers—recognized authorities held by the sovereign—after consultation with Cabinet Office officials, instead of through parliamentary means.

Royal instruments and warrants are tools of this prerogative, used to grant or revoke honors and styles.

Since the Royal Highness designation is granted by such documents, it can be withdrawn through the same process.

Further Measures and Support

Following the initial announcement, the lord chancellor was instructed to prepare the required paperwork for the title removals.

This action also involves Andrew giving up his tenancy on Royal Lodge, a 30-room Crown Estate property where he has lived for twenty years.

The government endorsed the monarch's decision.

Retained Honor

In spite of the stripping of honors, it was announced that Mountbatten Windsor will retain his South Atlantic medal, granted for his role as a Sea King helicopter co-pilot during the Falklands conflict.
